About the Bangamalanha Conference

Following the success of the inaugural Bangamalanha Conference in 2014, TAFE NSW is pleased to provide the opportunity for practitioners, researchers, community members and industry representatives to again meet on the lands of the Wiradjuri people in Dubbo. The three-day conference named after a Wiradjuri word meaning "to share with each other" will be happening in September 2018 with more than 200 Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal delegates expected to attend.

The focus of Bangamalanha 2018 will be to continue the sharing of successful programs, approaches and outcomes for Aboriginal peoples once they have left school, including ensuring genuine and sustainable partnerships with Aboriginal communities and Aboriginal organisations, and respect for Aboriginal cultures.

"I believe those who work in the post-school Aboriginal space should continue to have the
opportunity to come together to share successes as well as the challenges they have confronted".
Kate Baxter, Regional General Manager, TAFE NSW.

The conference recognises that many individual organisations, businesses, Government agencies and Aboriginal communities are striving to design and deliver programs and services in relation to education, training and employment that increases productive outcomes on the ground.

The conference will bring together a motivated network of expertise and knowledge to showcase initiatives, experiences and successes.

Conference participants will:

• Gain an overview of current initiatives related to post-school Aboriginal education and training
• Share expertise, experience and knowledge to cultivate links between employers, training providers, support services and Aboriginal Communities
• Participate in discussion regarding strategies to improve post-school outcomes
• Contribute to a growing knowledge base regarding the variety of approaches which deliver positive outcomes for Aboriginal peoples once they leave school
• Build networks for genuine collaboration across sectors to support effective outcomes for Aboriginal peoples
• Increase knowledge of Aboriginal Cultural components necessary to ensure cultural safety and appropriateness of initiatives.

Educationalists and practitioners from NSW, and across Australia will attend the Conference.

"I found the conference to be very rewarding in that I have made new contacts and learnt about other programs that could be implemented in both my employment and voluntary roles. Conference attendee, Bangamalanha Conference 2016.

The Conference will include:

  • A welcome reception to be held at TAFE NSW Dubbo
  • A Conference opening
